In connection with the murder of a man in Benin, the state’s capital, the police in Edo State have detained four suspects.
SP Chidi Nwabuzor, the public relations officer, condemned the ongoing instances of “jungle justice” in a statement.
Emmanuel Igube, 19, Matthew Gimba, 39, Monday Nathaniel, 30, and Gabriel Akuba, 20, are all in custody.
They were apprehended after a suspected thief was lynched on Sunday in the Benin community of Iyanamo, near the Ekehuan Army Barracks.
”The victim was allegedly mobbed over an allegation that he stole an unregistered motorcycle,” the spokesperson said.
The arrested group, Nwabuzor continued, was helping the police with their ongoing investigation. CP Mohammed Dankwara has directed that the case be transferred from Evbuotubu Police Station to the State Criminal Investigation Department.
