Governor-Elect Abiodun Oyebanji Biography

Abiodun Ayobami Oyebanji

Born in Ikogosi-Ekiti, Ekiti State, Nigeria on 21st December 1967, age 54.

Oyebanji is the winner of the Ekiti state governorship election held June 18, 2022. He is a member of the All Progressive Congress (APC). A former commissioner and the immediate past secretary to the state government (18 October 2018 – 7 December 2021) before resigning to run for governor. Abiodun Oyebanji polled 187,057 to defeat his closest rival Segun Oni of SDP who scored 82,211 while Bisi Kolawale of the major opposition party scored 67,457 came distant third. He was fully supported by the APC presidential candidate for the 2023 presidential election Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the incumbent governor Dr. Kayode Fayemi. This is the first time a political party is getting a back to back win in governorship election in the state. However, the election was marred by various report of vote buying and ballot box snatching.

Oyebanji started his professional career as a lecturer at University of Ado Ekiti for four years and then moved to the banking sector where he worked as a Manager.

He began academic career in Ikogosi-Ekiti, Ekiti State at Baptist Primary School then moved to CAC Grammar School, Efon-Alaaye, Ekiti State in 1979. He also attended Federal School of Arts and Science and District Commercial Secondary School in Aramoko-Ekiti from 1983 to 1985. Studied Political Science at Ekiti State University in 1989. Got a Master’s degree in Political Science from the University of Ibadan in 1992.

Mr. Abiodun is married to Professor Oyebanji, an associate professor at the University of Ibadan and a princess in Ado Ekiti. He is blessed with children.
