Gas Truck Catches Fire, Severely Injures Two

On Thursday 4th of November, a fire broke out when a cooking gas truck at a gas station in Ilorin, Kwara State caught fire. Although the Kwara State Fire Service speedily intervened, two persons were severely injured.

According to an eyewitness report, the fire outbreak was noticed in a damaged gas delivery truck parked at the gas station which spread to an adjourning bungalow building and burnt the building. The witness said that two men were seriously injured in the ravaging inferno.

Reports from the State Fire Service, say that the incident occurred at Grace Gas Plant Station, Ita-Elepa Junction, Off Asa-Dam Road in Ilorin West Local Government Area of the state.

Hassan Adekunle, the Head of Media and Publicity of the state Fire Service, confirming the incident in a statement issued on Thursday night, said that the men of the fire service’s quick intervention saved the gas plant from exploding.

Adekunle said that the two men injured in the inferno had been taken to the state government health facility for treatment.

The statement read, “Kwara State Fire Service has on November 3, 2022, saved a 30tons of cooking gas confined inside its tank from being exploded.”

“This happened in a fire outbreak that occurred at Grace Gas Plant Station situated at Ita-Elepa Junction, Off Asa-Dam Road in Ilorin West Local Government Area of Kwara State.”

“An eyewitness of the incident confirmed to the firemen that the fire erupted from the damaged gas delivery truck parked inside the gas station. The man also added that two men had sustained serious injury from the ravaging inferno.”

“Even though the firemen were able to perform assiduously in saving the gas plant from an explosion, yet a nearby three-bedroom flat was affected by the inferno.”

“However, the Director, Kwara State Fire Service, Prince Falade Olumuyiwa, urged every gas station to be more safety conscious in their day-to-day activities at their various stations.”
