WITHDRAWAL LIMITS: Again Emefiele Fails To Appear Before Reps

Again Godwin Emefiele, the Central Bank Governor failed to appear before the House of Representatives on Tuesday, December 20th, 2022 over the cash withdrawal limit policy of the CBN.

In a letter written by Edward Adamu, the Deputy Governor of Corporate Services, the CBN Governor, said he is currently outside the country for an official assignment. Adding that he will communicate to the House an appropriate date for the meeting.

The letter read: “Regrettably, the governor is unavailable to brief the House of Representatives at this time because he has other scheduled official engagements he is currently addressing abroad.”

“Accordingly, he has requested that we respectively convey his inability to honour this invitation on the rescheduled date.”

“The governor regrets this and will contact the House of Representatives as soon as he returns to the country from his official assignment,” the letter read in part.”

He was initially billed to appear before the House on December 15th but failed to show up, citing official engagement outside the country with the President as the reason for his absence.

However, the House instructed the Clerk to the House to send another letter summoning him to brief the House on Tuesday regarding the cash withdrawal policy and the redesign of the naira.

His absence today makes it the second time the briefing has been postponed by the lawmakers.
