In advance of an active shooter practice, a high school teacher in the US state of Florida has been fired after assigning them to write their own obituaries.

In a statement obtained by the media, the Orange County School District claimed that “a teacher provided an unsuitable assignment about school violence… (and) has been terminated.” It didn’t offer any more information.

Veteran educator Jeffrey Keene, who was employed in January at Dr. Phillips High School in Orlando, told a local Fox affiliate that he was fired without cause.

As part of a psychology lesson, an apparent copy of the assignment posted by Keene on Facebook shows that he had asked his upper grade students to visualize that “today was your ‘last day’ alive” and write their own death notices.
