South East Youth Leaders Expresses Worries Over The Health Status Of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu

Following the reports of an outbreak of Tuberculosis in the facility where the IPOB leader and other suspects are detained. The Coalition of South East Youth Leaders, COSEYL, has expressed their concern over the health status of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, in the Department of State Services, DSS, detention facility in Abuja.

Kanu’s legal team, led by Special Counsel Aloy Ejimakor, had on Thursday raised the alarm that several detainees in the custody of the secret police have tested positive for the disease.

Reacting, COSEYL, in a statement issued by its President-General, Goodluck Ibem, alleged that the outbreak of the disease was a plot to murder the secessionist.

The coalition also called for the release of Kanu to enable him to gain access to medical facilities.

The statement reads in part, “The decision to detain a person living with tuberculosis in the DSS cell where Nnamdi Kanu is held is a heinous and demonic plot to infect him with such dangerous illness”.

The continuous illegal detention of Nnamdi Kanu at DSS custody against the order of the Federal Court of Appeal has divided the nation along ethnic lines which is unhealthy for democracy to thrive“.

We call on the Federal Government to release Nnamdi Kanu with immediate effect in order to avail him the opportunity to receive medical treatments. Failure to do so confirms a plot to assassinate him”.
