Mohammadu Buhari has announced that come Thursday, the 15th of December, 2022 the Second Niger Bridge will be opened to enable travellers travel freely especially during this xmas season.
The announcement was made by the federal controller of works in Delta State, Jimoh Olawale, in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria on Wednesday. However, he made it clear that the bridge will be opened for only 30 days inorder to ease people coming in for both chrisms and new year merriment. Mr. Olawale, who happens to be the federal controller of works in Delta State said ‘’ As we all know, during the chrismas and new year celebration, commuters tend to suffer hardship accessing the old Niger bridge due to traffic congestion on Asaba- Benin Express way ,but with the opening of this new bridge it will make it more easier and more safer for them. He finally said, that the state government of the above arrangement has being notified and so there are seriously working with Federal Road Safety Corps to ensure a hitch-free vehicle movement to and fro and Motorists going towards Owerri direction would divert through the access road near the old Niger Bridge to the new bridge.”
