Police Detain Three Teenagers For Alleged Armed Robbery In Anambra

Three teenagers who were allegedly involved in an armed robbery in Anambra State have been detained by the Anambra State Police command.

They were detained by vigilante agents in Awka, according to the state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Mr. Tochukwu Ikenga, and transferred for further investigation to the State CID, annex, Awkuzu in the Oyi local government area.

The PPRO stated that the incident was an armed robbery rather than two people fighting as was initially claimed, and the complainant positively identified the three culprits.

He said: “There were marks of violence and serious wound on the body of the complainant as a result of the attack by the suspects.”

“The suspects’ statements were taken and they all confessed to the crime. They were detained with other suspects in the cell.”

“One of the suspects in custody revealed that as they were sleeping, the late Uchenna started acting abnormally and screamed and hit his head on the wall before he slumped.”

“The victim was taken to the hospital and he was confirmed dead by the doctor.”

“No money was demanded or collected by the IPO or any policeman as attested by the deceased’s father.”

The PPRO claimed that a Twitter user’s post on the subject was intended to incite the general populace against the police and that the command had invited him to the Anambra State Police Command on Wednesday to bring witnesses and proof to support the claim that the IPO sought N150, 000 as bail.

He continued that by doing this, the police will be able to provide information regarding what happened.

In order to ascertain the reason of the victim’s death in the police cell, he declared that the police would also perform an autopsy.
