Peter Obi Clears The Air On Controversial Campaign Souvenirs

Labour Party Presidential candidate Peter Obi reacts to photos of his picture printed on prayer mats that went viral earlier on social media which caused many reactions.

The prayer mats with Obi’s image and the logo of his party on it were meant to be distributed in the northern parts of the country in a bid to promote his candidacy amongst the Muslim community.

However, the photos seemed to be causing an opposite reaction as a lot of social media users criticized the idea saying that in the Muslim faith, printing of images on prayer mats or other things used for daily prayers was forbidden.

In response, Peter Obi in a twitter post made on the 1st of July, debunked concerns from social media, saying the campaign souvenirs did not originate from his personal campaign team.

“The inclusion of my picture on the praying mat by a support group was misguided, even with the best of intentions. It didn’t emanate from my campaign team. I have deep respect for the Muslim faith and indeed, for every other religion.⁣

“We will never mock any faith, ethnicity, or gender. We are one Nigeria”, Obi said in his post.⁣
