Monarch Loses Two Sons To Killer-Herdsmen In Benue

On Saturday, survivors and retaliated families described the ordeals they went through at the hands of the alleged killer-herdsmen who broke into Mgban Primary School on Friday.

Bernard Shawa, the district chief of the Nyiev Community, claimed that the attack took the lives of two of his sons.

One of the survivors, Mnenna Orkega, described her experience as well, saying she and her children had fallen asleep only to be roused by random gunshots.

“I and my children were already asleep but we were woken up by bullets that swept across here,” said Orkega, who lost her 10-year-old daughter.

The mother claimed, in Tiv, that one of the herdsmen killed her child when he snatched it as she tried to flee via the window.

Bernard, the leader of the village said “I lost two of my boys during the attack; this was not the first time these people (herdsmen) were attacking us here. On February 25, 2023, the day of the presidential election, there was an attack that resulted in the deaths of 12, he stated.

The traditional leader urged the state and federal governments to put an end to the state’s slaughter of innocent citizens.

It was reported that the elementary school at Mgban in Nyiev Council Ward in the state’s Guma Local Government Area was invaded by suspected killer-herdsmen on a black Good Friday and  many persons were slaughtered in the attack.
