In a Twitter post on Monday via his verified Twitter handle, December 12th, Kingsley Moghalu, former presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), has criticised some of the country’s political elites, accusing them of being hypocritical and dismissing equality and social justice.
According to him, they “mouth off on national unity but easily ignore equity.”
The issue of nation-building in the country, according to Moghalu, is exacerbated by the development, which he finds troubling.
He did, however, advise politicians to learn how to balance their interests with equity and justice, as done in developed countries.
He wrote, “I understand politics is a game of interests. But if we look at the countries that are developed, we see that they did so by balancing interests with equity and justice. The economic interest of slavery had to give way to civil rights and justice, or else America would be a lie.”
“In Nigeria, many so-called statesmen and leaders conveniently ignore equity but mouth off on “national unity”. This is a fundamental problem of nation-building in Nigeria. I am really troubled by it.”
