Mike Dean Punished For Mistake In Chelsea Versus Spurs Game

Mike Dean has been dropped from the video assistant referee (VAR) for this weekends premier League match day as a result of his error in the game between Chelsea and Tottenham last weekend on Sunday at Stamford Bridge . Chelsea fans where furious after the game due to many wrong calls by the referees which allowed Spurs come from behind twice to snatch a point at the Bridge.

Speaking to Daily Mail about the incident involving Cristian Romero and Marc Cucurella, Mike Dean said “I could not award a free-kick as VAR, but I could recommend to Taylor that he visit the referee review area to consider a possible red card. In the few seconds I had to study Romero pulling Cucurella’s hair, I didn’t deem it a violent act.

I have since studied the footage, spoken to other referees, and upon reflection, I should have asked Taylor to visit his pitch side monitor to take a look or himself. The referee on field always has the final say. It goes to show that no matter how experienced you are, and I have spent more than two decades as a Premier League official, you are always learning”.

Medicine after death from Mike Dean as his statement will do little or nothing to restore back the two points already lost in the game against Tottenham, Chelsea should do their best to get over it so they can concentrate on other fixtures coming up, it is still early days in the new season so looking back continuously at previous poor results won’t help in developing the winning mentality the team needs to have going forward.
