Magistrate Court In Incarcerates Two Friends For Alleged Attempted Murder

Two friends, Adikwu Alexander and Ngbede Ogili have been remanded in a correction centre in Adoka, Otukpo LGA of Benue State for alleged attempted homicide, following an order on Wednesday by a Magistrates’ Court in the state.

The police charged Alexander and Ogili with conspiracy, causing grievous hurt, and attempted culpable homicide. Magistrate Sonia Yaikyur did not take the plea of Alexander and Ogili for want in the jurisdiction.

Yaikyur directed the police to continue investigations into the matter. She adjourned the case until Feb 3 for further mention, NAN reports.

Insp. James Ewache, the police prosecutor who represented the prosecution, had earlier informed the court that Ms. Mary Obiabo of the Ogbeche Adoka LGA in Benue had reported the matter on October 31.

The suspect’s accomplices, Adikwu Alexander, Ngbede Ogili, John Ajawu, Egbe Idoko, and Gabriel Okwoli, according to Ewache’s testimony in court, broke into the complainant’s compound in search of her son, Eche.

The police said that after spotting him, they chased after him and used a machete to inflict varying degrees of injury on his neck and hands.

The prosecution said an investigation into the case was still ongoing and prayed to the court for an adjournment. He said the offence contravenes sections 97, 248, and 230 of the Penal code laws of Benue 2004.
