Liverpool’s Jota Impressed With Win Over Leeds, Calls For Consistency

Jurgen Klopp’s side stayed eighth after the win, their first since hammering Manchester United 7-0 at the start of March, and are nine points behind fourth place Newcastle with eight games left.On only one occasion this season have Liverpool put together more than two Premier League wins in a row. Even then, their four successive wins in November and December were split by the World Cup break. Every other time the Reds have won two games in a row, they have failed to win a third. That issue with consistency has set them back.

“I think this season we had great results, great wins and we didn’t really follow that. So hopefully this time we can go on a run and win pretty much all the games,” Jota, who scored his first two Premier League goals of an injury-hit campaign, told LiverpoolFC.com after the Leeds game.

“We need to believe,” he said of catching the top four. “While it’s possible, we need to believe. But we can only do that by winning games. Certainly, today was a step in the right direction.”

Liverpool haven’t missed out on Champions League football since finishing eight in 2015/16, Klopp’s first season in charge prior to a major squad rebuild.Jota had gone a whole year without scoring in the Premier League prior to Monday night, last scoring in a 2-2 draw with Manchester City in April 2022. But he is hoping that his brace at Elland Road will bring confidence and personal momentum.

“I think it was a bit of last season as well, I didn’t score in the last few games,” he admitted.

“This season is really, really hard, struggling with injuries. Now I’m trying to get that momentum and games like today will certainly help for that.”
