In Zamfara, NSCDC Arrests POS Operator For Transacting Business For Bandits

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Zamfara State Command, reported that its officials had detained Mustapha, a POS operator, for allegedly carrying out cash transactions for bandits.

In a statement released on Monday, the state commandant, Muhammad Bello Muazu, said that the perpetrator was apprehended while carrying out the aforementioned transaction in the Birnin Tsaba community of the state’s Zurmi LGA.

He claimed that two POS machines had been found by the agents and that the suspect had admitted that a bandit leader had purchased them for him.

The suspect admitted, to him, that he exclusively uses the POS system to do business on behalf of his client bandits.

Daily Post reports that he explained that the suspect confessed that he is only using the POS machine to transact business on behalf of his client bandits

“During interrogation, the suspect told us that they put calls to him from the forest and instruct him to collect money on their behalf and keep the money with him.” He said

According to him, if bandits want to buy drugs, fuel, or foodstuff, they send somebody directly to the suspect to collect the money to buy whatever they want for them.

“From our observation, this will affect the way the bandits are using rural POS operators to make transactions. The rural POS operators are closer to the armed criminals,” he explained
