In Lagos, Police Arrest And Detain Officer For Murder Of A Resident

On Wednesday, the Lagos State Police Command announced that an Inspector of Police had been apprehended in connection with the shooting and death of Gafaru Buraimoh, a resident of Happy Land Estate in Ajah.

The undisclosed police officer was detained on Tuesday, according to a statement by Benjamin Hundeyin, the Command’s spokeswoman, who also stated that an investigation into the matter has begun.

The shooting happened on Tuesday night at 11.30 p.m., but according to Hundeyin, the policeman responsible for it was “immediately disarmed.”

He also expressed sympathy to Buraimoh’s family and gave Lagos residents assurance that justice would be served by an investigation into the victim’s death.

Eyewitnesses provided stories of the occurrence, which it was later determined took place in front of the Ajiwe police station in the Lagos neighbourhood of Ajah.

The Area Commander of Elemoro and Divisional Police Officer, Ajah, have been informed, the Lagos Police Public Relations Officer wrote in a series of tweets titled “Police arrest, detain officer behind shooting incident.”

The statement read, “At About 2330hrs of Tuesday, December 06, 2022, a shooting incident involving men of Ajah Division, resulted in the unfortunate death of Gafaru Buraimoh of Happy Land Estate, Ajah.”

“The officer behind the shooting, an Inspector of Police, was immediately disarmed and has been detained, as a full-scale investigation has commenced.”

“The Lagos State Police Command through the Area Commander, Elemoro, and Divisional Police Officer, Ajah has since notified and established contact with the family.”

“The Command, while commiserating with the family of the deceased over the avoidable and most unfortunate incident, gives assurances that the already commenced investigation into the immediate and remote circumstances leading to the shooting will be brought to a speedy and conclusive end, while equally ensuring that justice is served.”
