Haaland rounded off the scoring as Man City tore apart the German giants in the first leg of their UEFA Champions League quarter-final.The Norwegian continued his frightening form and has now smashed a new record with over a month of the season still to play.Haaland’s 45th strike of the campaign means he has now scored more goals than any player at a Premier League club in a given season. The record previously belonged to Ruud van Nistelrooy and Mohamed Salah, with both previously notching 44 in a single season – the Dutchman in 2002/03 with Manchester United, the Egyptian in 2017/18 with Liverpool.

Van Nistelrooy and Salah both reached that tally after playing 52 matches, but Haaland has set a new benchmark with just 39 games under his belt – he could still feature 13 more times for Man City this season.Haaland has already broken the records for most goals scored by a Premier League player in a season and by a Man City player over a campaign, but there are plenty of others which will be in his sights. He currently sits on 30 Premier League goals, two off of Salah’s record for a 38-game season and four behind Andy Cole’s back when 42 matches were played. In the Champions League, Cristiano Ronaldo holds the record for most strikes in a campaign with 17 – Haaland is now six behind that total.
