Two Catholic priests Reverend Father Chochos Kunav and his colleague Rev Father Raphael Ogigba, have been kidnapped by gunmen within the Agbara-Otor area of Ughelli North Local Government in Delta State.

The Delta State police command in a statement on Sunday said it is on the trail of the kidnappers who abducted priests.

According to the authorities, the clerics were abducted at the Agbara-Otor road on Saturday night while on their way to Ughelli.

Giving further details of the development, the Delta state Police Public Relation Officer, Edafe Bright said the command has been proactively handling the abduction to ensure they are released unharmed.

The two clergymen later went to see another priest around Agbara-Otor and were abducted on their way back.

A statement issued by Rev Father Okereke Kizito and made available to journalists in Warri on Monday explained that Father Chochos who works in Ibadan was on a visit to his colleague of the Catholic Diocese of Warri, Rev Father Ogigba.

“They both later went to see another priest around Agbaro-Otor and on their way back they were abducted”, the statement said.

The statement called for prayers for the safe release of the abducted priests.

“We ask for intense prayers for quick and safe release. May Jesus the high priest and the good Shepherd take care of his priests and may our mother thrice admirable Queen and victress of schoenstatt intercede for them,“ it added.

As at the time of filing this report, it still was not clear if the kidnappers have reached out and if any demands have been made.
