Fire Outbreak: 20 Residents In Rivers State Rendered Homeless

Early hours of Tuesday, residents of No 9 Awkwuzu Street at mile1 Diobu in Port Harcourt City council are counting their losses as fire gut their building and displaced them.

The Fire gut the building in the early hours of Tuesday as occupants of the building were seen rescuing their valuables and others making efforts to put off the fierce inferno.

Eyewitnesses say over twenty persons have been rendered homeless, adding that the fire completely razed the building.

According to the source, Prince Friday, the fire was said to have been caused by a woman who left her cooking stove on in her room and went out this morning.

He said 20 rooms and six shops with properties worth millions were razed adding that no fire service was in sight.

He said: “Fire service was not on sight but the Police (Divisional Police headquarters Mile 1 Diobu) was on the ground to prevent Hoodlums from carting away tenant property”
