In an ongoing dialogue with the topic;
The Electorate(A conversation on elections in Nigeria), being held at the Shehu Musa Yar’adua Centre in Abuja. The Chairman of the Independent Electoral Commission (INEC), Mr.Mahmood Yakubu, answering questions on his agency’s preparations for the election said, the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) will no longer be custodians of INEC’s sensitive materials, owing to recent political issues.

The Moderator of the event, Mr.Ebuka Obi-Uchedu, while anchoring the Question and Answers session, had asked the INEC Boss:
“what are the commission’s plans for the electorate in Anambra, Kadua-Abuja Highways among other parts of the country battling insecurity?

While responding,the Chairman said, although INEC has never had issues moving their materials through the CBN, it will not route materials for the Ekiti Governorship Elections through the Central Bank, due to recent political issues.

Recall the hullabaloo that greeted the announcement of Mr. Godwin Emefiele’s interest in participating, in the Presidential Primaries of the All Progressives Congress Party(APC).

Individuals and groups across the country cried foul, demanded he resigns his position and cast aspersions on the integrity of CBN and the sanctity of Election Materials being kept with the CBN, when it’s Governor is a player in the political process.
