Buhari Urges Nigerians To Drop Money Politics, Embrace True Politics

On Monday the 16th of January, 2023, while speaking during a press conference in Ibadan, the Social Democratic Party (SDP) Vice Presidential candidate, Engr. Yusuf Buhari declared that money politics cannot take Nigerians out of the present challenges.

Present at the media briefing was the gubernatorial candidate of the party in the State, Barr. Michael Lana, SDP Chairman, Mr. Michael Okunlade, and some of the candidates of the party in the 2023 general elections.

In his remarks to the media, Buhari suggested that the several crises that Nigeria is currently experiencing could be resolved by visionary, patriotic, just, and committed leadership.

During the election, he urged the electorate to reject money politics “because it cannot take us anywhere.”

Buhari forewarned that if we continue to practice money politics, those with the most money would control our politics, not those with the best initiatives.

In order to effectively harness and use the potential of our distinctions with justice, he insisted, the work at hand demands governance with full knowledge of our differences.

As he continued, Buhari urged Nigerians to vote for Prince Adewole Adebayo, the party’s presidential candidate, and other candidates to help them overcome their present problems.

He added that “we must resolve to halt and reverse the trend of failure.”

He declared that it was time to start walking the path that would lead the country to success and prosperity.

Buhari said, “The progress or success that we must aim for as a people, is also a direct consequence of self-accountability and self-discipline.”

“If we continue to play money politics, then our politics will be determined by the people who have the most money, not by those who can offer the best. These are critical components for bringing sanity and functionality to any system, as well as defining a responsible citizenry.”

“We must resolve to halt and reverse this trend of failure. It is time to start walking the path that would lead this country to success and prosperity. And even if for nothing else, let us do it for our children. Our solutions and our destiny are adequately in our hands.”
