Some commercial bus drivers are involved in kidnappings and other criminal acts, which will be reduced by the initiative.
Alhaji Musiliu Akinsanya (AKA MC Oluomo), Chairman of Lagos State Parks and Garages, has announced the implementation of barcode technology to combat state insecurity.
According to him, the initiative will curb kidnappings and other criminal activities perpetrated by some commercial bus drivers.
What you ought to know:Bamise (Oluwabamise) Toyosi Ayanwole was a young Nigerian woman who was taken from a BRT bus in Lagos, Nigeria, on February 26, 2022, and found dead nine days later. In the past few years, a lot more stories that are similar to this one have come to light.
MC Oluoma said that everyone in Lagos is worried a lot about insecurity. As stakeholders in the transportation industry, the agency can’t let con artists use their garages and parks as hiding places for criminals.
Our objective is to use technology to catch some criminals who use our garages and parks to commit crimes. We want to make our parking lots and parks as secure as they can be.He declared, “We will make them hell for anyone with criminal intent.”he said.
He told the people in charge of various garages and parks to get rid of criminals or they would be held accountable for their actions.
Comrade Olayiwola Lemboye, Secretary of Lagos State Parks and Garages, explained how commuters would download an app and scan the barcode on buses to determine whether they are safe to board.
Once you scan the barcode on any bus, it will bring out certain information about the park or garage for commuters to determine if the bus is safe for boarding or not. For those who usually forget their ‘loads’ in the bus, the code will help passengers recollect the vehicle’s number plate and trace it to the park or garage such the vehicle operates from.
“We’re using this medium to urge the public to try as much as possible to key into this project because the barcode will assist in curbing the cases of kidnapping, theft and other societal vices people perpetrated with public buses. We are urging the public to just give us the benefit of the doubt on this project and key into it. It is for the good of all,” Lemboye said.
What is a barcode?A barcode is an image that is square or rectangular and is made up of white spaces with varying widths and a series of parallel black lines. The date of manufacture, the expiration date, the name of the manufacturer, the country of origin, the price quantity, a specific product number, a person, or a location are all stored in the barcode.
It’s possible that the information on the drivers’ license and car details/papers are the same on the parking lot barcodes.
