It is official that Mr. Peter Obi has picked Doyin Okupe as his running mate come 2023 presidential election. Okupe was Special Assistant on Media and Publicity to President Olusegun Obasanjo and Senior Special Assistant on Public Affairs to President Goodluck Jonathan.
Dr. Doyin Okupe has confirmed to be the vice presidential candidate for the Labour Party during a TV interview on Channels TV. Earlier today, his name popped up as the placeholder VP candidate just so that the Labour party can beat INEC’s Friday deadline, then replace him at a comfortable time.
While we wait for more details to unfold, Dr. Okupe is from Iperu in Ogun State. He is a trained medical doctor and co-founded Royal Cross Medical Center. He was detained during Abacha’s regime and was a governorship candidate of the PDP in Ogun State.
His purported selection as VP candidate has raised confusion and questions. He is from Southern Nigeria just as Mr. Peter Obi. Leaving questions about why would the labour party ignore the North in their calculations. It is proven that the North has more registered voters than the South.
